Day 14: Something New

Just as I was thankful for old friends, I am also thankful for the new people in my life. My children in particular. Those four little monsters have taught me a lot about patience, love, and to embrace the goofiness. I am also thankful for my new friends. I believe there is something to learn from every new relationship. And I treasure that.

  1. New perspectives and new experiences. Even if beliefs are comforting, it can be refreshing to clear them out every once in a while, kind of like a wildfire clearing the land.

The Lakota tribes, in particular, has people called “heyoka” who exist specifically to slap people out of their grooves. They are a kind of sacred clown.

Nobody wants to be chosen for this job by having a vision of the thunder beings because it is hard to be the clown. You have do do and say the opposite of what everyone else is doing, make bawdy jokes and gestures, even walk backwards.
