30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 18
Day 18: Quote
This one is hard. There are a lot of really great quotes out there. However, my life is run by children. So, my current favorite quotes are mostly from nursery rhymes and children’s songs. Some of those songs are really kind of sad. So, the quote I am thankful for comes from “Row Row Your Boat”: “Life is but a dream.” I had a revelation when I first heard someone say only that line. I believe it was in a song by Bauhaus. The singer just says that line at the end of the song. It really made that children’s song sound just hopeless. And here we go rowing as much as we can.
And I still sing this song *all the time* to my kiddos. It might be hopeless, but it is great for lulling them to sleep.
That was poignant and kind of sad.
Can one be thankful for a quote? I don’t know.
Since you mentioned kids stuff, I like Dr. Seuss’s “From there to here, from here to there, Funny things are everywhere”.
“Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
No one ever actually said this. It morphed into this quote from philosophy by George Santayana. I like it because it applies to me and the whole world.
“The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls/ and tenement halls.”- Simon and Garfunkel (with a nice version by Disturbed). Beautiful.
