30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 15

Day 15: Experience

What experience am I thankful for? All of the ones I actually learned something from were painful.

I guess I would have to say I am most thankful for experiencing giving birth to my Dragon at home in water. I learned that I could think through my pain and that childbirth could be peaceful. I also fully experienced the whole range of the pain scale and am now able to understand it.

Day 14: Something New

Just as I was thankful for old friends, I am also thankful for the new people in my life. My children in particular. Those four little monsters have taught me a lot about patience, love, and to embrace the goofiness. I am also thankful for my new friends. I believe there is something to learn from every new relationship. And I treasure that.

Day 13: Something Old

Hmmm. Something old? I have moved so much that I have very little in my life that is old. Maybe old friends? I have known Abigail for somewhere around 25 years and Mandy for around 35 years. I am thankful for both of them. We’ve had some fun shenanigans together. And some not so fun ones. But over all these years, we may have lost contact, but we managed to find each other again.

Then there is my husband. We have been together for 23 years and married for 18 of those years. He has put up with my weirdness and he helps to keep me grounded and mostly out of trouble. I love ya, Babe.

Day 12: Gadget

Hmmm. I am so thankful for so many gadgets. My microwave is currently broken and I really do miss having that convenience, although I am working around it pretty easily. I do love my dishwasher, but I know I can survive without it in a heartbeat.

I think I am most thankful for my heater. It went out a few years ago and that was miserable. I was so worried about the kids being warm enough that I had trouble sleeping. First thing in the morning, I would start a fire in the fireplace in an attempt to get some warmth. I was baking and baking and baking, trying to add more warmth. I was finding excuses to go to different places so I wouldn’t have to use the stone cold toilet. We tried to use small space heaters, but had to be so careful that it was almost worse than worrying about the cold. I worried about them catching fire and I worried about them tripping the breakers (which did happen). So yes, I really love having a whole house heater that I do not have to worry about, at least when it is working.

Day 11: Tradition

My current favorite tradition is my annual Witches’ Tea Party. I have held it for three years. I almost canceled it this year due to how sick I had been, but I decided it was something I really needed to do.

A few of the “witches” who came. My party has an average of 30 people every year.

A few more witches. It was so nice this year that we moved a portion of the party to the outside.

The centerpiece: The owl pumpkin. It was amazingly gorgeous.

People bring a bit of food every year. I create butterbeer and butterbeer mini cupcakes along with a selection of teas. We had six teas this year.

Day 10: Time of Day

I would have to say dusk. That weird time when it is still light out, but not. I actually don’t like to drive during this time because the light/nonlight plays tricks on my vision. It is a magickal time for me. I can see why people have said it is the time for fae to play.

Day 9: Blog/Website

Huh. I don’t think I have any big attachments to any particular website. I guess I would have to be thankful for the now defunct MSN Groups. I met a lot of internet friends through those groups that I still keep in contact with and have met a few of them in person.

I suppose I could put Pinterest on here too. It has saved many dinner dilemmas.

A Sober Post About Drugs

So a little break in between my gratitude posts. I have always been someone who never really imbibed in drugs or alcohol very much. I like an occasional glass of something, but it is occasional. On the subject of drugs, I barely took Tylenol. Until I got my cancer diagnosis.

I know this seems like a totally random post. I just started to think about this today. Today was the first day I went totally pain-med free. Since September. I was on some pretty hefty stuff. As in I was actually afraid to drive myself around for about a month. My body became dependent on it, so once I was ready to stop taking it, I had to slowly lower my dosages. Then I looked at all the other meds I am taking:

This is not including the D3 I have to take to go along with the calcium, the mouthwash I need to use so I can taste food, or the four other medications that I have stopped taking in the past month. I have to use a list to remember where to put each medication. It also took me forever to remember what each pill was. I will also be stopping a few other medicines within the next month. Which will be nice. Mostly because I hate taking so many pills, but I also miss the occasional beer or glass of wine and there are a few pills in there that will not react well with alcohol. I can wait. I am getting down there.

Day 8: Restaurant

Ugh. y’all are going to judge me so hard for this one. I am thankful for McDonald’s. That one McDonald’s nearish my house in particular. The one that redid their play area about 2 years ago. That play area has saved my sanity the past few winters. I’m not keen on their food, but I love those indoor play places. I do, however, really like their regular coffee and iced tea. It’s a little sad that a fast food restaurant has the best iced tea in town.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 7

Oops got a little behind on this.

Day 7: Scent

Scent? I suppose baby head. Sounds weird, I know. Looks weird seeing it written down. But seriously, I love to sniff my babies’ heads. It doesn’t smell so good once they get older and active, but there is something about a baby’s smell that is really kind of intoxicating.
