30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 26

Ok. I got behind on these and I really want to finish them. I only have 5 days left. I had gotten sick and I am still recovering, but I am finally feeling well enough to sit at my computer.

Day 26: Charity

I will need to mention two. And yes, they are both cancer related. You will have to forgive me if that is pretty much constantly on my mind.

The first is The Warrior Sisterhood. These women are amazing and have helped to give support and even some normalcy with activities such as going to the pumpkin patch, painting, and family roller skating. I really can’t express to them how much their support has meant.

The second is the Metastatic Breast Cancer Network. These folks are fighting for more research and understanding about Stage IV breast cancer. There is surprising little research about MBC. The number of people living with MBC is even unknown. We just kind of get pushed to the wayside.

So, if you have a sudden need to support a charity, think of one of these. The Metastatic Breast Cancer Network is one of the Amazon Smile charities, so you can donate and shop.

Day 25: Luxury

I have a lot of luxuries to be thankful for. So, I think I will choose pedicures. That is a few hours of bliss right there. I don’t get to have them very often, but I love them when I do get them.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 24

You are all lucky I am still cognizant enough to write something up. Our feast was amazing. You can check out my Facebook Page or Instagram @FoxandBroom for food photos. I am too lazy to download them and upload them tonight.

Day 24: Photo

Oh boy. A photo I am thankful for… In today’s age, I have thousands of photos on my computer alone. And now to choose one.

Fox & Broom|Thankful Picture

I love this picture so much. I felt well enough to take my boys to the pumpkin patch. Our way was paid by The Warrior Sisterhood. They all had so much fun. They played hard, picked out pumpkins, and we had hot chocolates afterwards. It was such an amazing day. We did get really chilly, but the hot chocolate fixed that. So, for the moment, this is the picture I am most thankful for.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 23

Day 23: Feeling

I think all feelings are amazing. The fact that we can even tell if we are feeling angry or sad or mad or happy or joyful is a pretty amazing thing. Today… today, I am thankful for feeling curious. My curiosity has gotten me into a lot of trouble, but it has also led to a lot of new knowledge. I have grabbed hold of electric fences, watched how different baby animals grew, walked down streets I didn’t know, gotten lost, and met new people.

Day 22: Book

Uhhh. Anyone who knows me or has been to my house probably knows my problem with this one. My whole living room is a library. And now I have to choose 1 book?

I think it would have to be The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle. I grew up with that movie and have read the book over and over. I love the story so much that I made sure to see the movie when it was on tour every time it came near my area. I was able to have Mr. Beagle sign some of my favorite books written by him. Ironically, I did not have my copy of The Last Unicorn. I had loaned it out to a friend.

Day 21: Disappointment/Fear

This is something strange to be thankful for. I guess I would have to say that I am most thankful for my fears about my children. When I was at my lowest in my early cancer treatment, it was the thought of my children that got me to choke down food when I just kept gagging. I thought of them as I lost my hair to radiation. I am afraid of leaving my kids. I am afraid of the idea of Max never having any memories of me. I fight the hardest for my own life because of my children.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 20

Day 20: Keepsake

Oh boy. I have moved so many times that I have either lost or gotten rid of a lot of things that would be keepsakes.

So, I guess it is another tie. I have a July 1998 edition of National Geographic. This particular edition has a small article with a picture of my Grandma Irene. The article was on natural disasters. Her house had been buried under over 30 feet of snow. She was a really neat lady. You can read my own memorium to her here.

My second treasure is a treasure box created by the ever so lovely and talented Abigail Swire. That little box has held some of my weird little treasures around the US for over 20 years.

Day 19: Clothing

Well, I guess I am grateful for all clothing. Right now… I have a tie on the clothing that I am most thankful for. Hats and socks. My poor bald head gets seriously cold really quick. And my feet are almost always cold. I have started to even wear socks to bed just because my feet get so icy. The coldness is probably because my blood is so sick. I can usually tell when it is time for another transfusion (and I think another transfusion is in my near future).

Anyway, I have gotten some really amazing hats from a lot of people.

Cat hat!

A comfy hat sent by my Aunt Cathy.

A soft black hat perfect for working out. This was free at my local cancer center.

I should try to remember to take pictures of some of the socks that I have been gifted. I have socks with owls and pumpkins and somewhat naughty sayings. They are pretty fun, as far as socks go.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 18

Fox & Broom|30 Days of Thankfulness

Day 18: Quote

This one is hard. There are a lot of really great quotes out there. However, my life is run by children. So, my current favorite quotes are mostly from nursery rhymes and children’s songs. Some of those songs are really kind of sad. So, the quote I am thankful for comes from “Row Row Your Boat”: “Life is but a dream.” I had a revelation when I first heard someone say only that line. I believe it was in a song by Bauhaus. The singer just says that line at the end of the song. It really made that children’s song sound just hopeless. And here we go rowing as much as we can.

And I still sing this song *all the time* to my kiddos. It might be hopeless, but it is great for lulling them to sleep.

Day 17: Store

Egads. I do love to wander in a few different stores. I think the one I would be most thankful for was the old Dream Street in St. Augustine, FL. I found so much peace in that place. I was sad when it changed. It is still nice, but in a different way. Dream Street was the place I needed as an angst-ridden teenager.
